Hyatt Director of Sales & Marketing in LONDON, United Kingdom
As the Director of Sales & Marketing I am responsible for the total sales and marketing strategy and implementation to meet the financial goals of the hotel. As part of the Executive Committee this is an extremely varied and dynamic role which is split into three key areas: to drive total sales & marketing activities, contribute to hotel strategy/budgeting and develop and manage a large team. We have a team that consists of an ADOS Transient who manages a team of 2, an ADOS Groups and Events that manages a team of 7 and a Marketing Manager that manages a team of 2. We also have a Hyatt UK Area team of 2 MICE sellers and 1 Digital Marketing Manager with a dotted line to the DOSM.
My main responsibility is to ensure we are exceeding the hotels financial budget and driving our strategic actions, whilst balancing costs to achieve a high GOP and at the same time making sure we have a happy and cared for customer base and team. This means making sure we have the right strategies in place and a well informed and focused team to make sure we are finding and managing the right business for the hotel and delivering our brand promises that at every Andaz you should “Arrive a visitor and depart a local”.
Apart from strategies I am also responsible for reviewing and setting up SOPs and systems to ensure the correct booking procedures and financial information is updated regularly to stay on top of the hotel’s P&L, submit accurate reforecasting and monthly owner reports.
Every day is different at a hotel that has a long established history with a great reputation as one of the only 5* branded properties and with the best location in the city, connected directly to Liverpool Street Station. With 267 newly renovated bedrooms and suites, 7 re-designed F&B outlets plus 15 meeting rooms, I can promise we never get bored.
Marketing, Digital and PR play a very important role in my responsibilities as a brand like Andaz needs to be at the cutting edge of what’s happening in the every evolving global hospitality space. So we need to be innovators and keep our staff, guests and locals inspired and wanting to come back for more.
There has also been a huge development in the City and East London over the recent years so although this brings tremendous opportunities, there are also a raft of new hotels popping up and we need to constantly monitor local and international market trends and keep up on our competitors and maintain strong relationships with our customers to remain relevant, competitive and cutting edge.
On a day to day in terms of proactive sales & account management activities, I manage the top 2 corporate accounts in the hotel in terms of revenue and room nights. These are Hyatt Global Accounts and therefore it is important to forge a strong relationship with the Global Hyatt Sales Force. My accounts are large and require a substantial amount of time and management, and they reward us through their partnership and loyalty to our hotel. There is also some international travel to visit our top clients as well as represent Andaz London at some MICE and Luxury tradeshows.
On the team management side, I make sure I keep a very open communication with my team. My door is always open and it is important to discuss and develop ideas together. I rely on my team to take initiative and manage their time, and I support them in any way I can to make sure they are successful in their roles and ensure they are in line with our department’s sales strategy. It is very important that my team has the confidence to take ownership of their decisions and to feel empowered to do more than just their jobs – and my role is to guide them at every stage and develop them to grow and learn.
I also work closely with the other Executive Committee members in a supportive and collaborative manner, so we can all focus on the overall success of the hotel, reaching our goals and keeping our teams and guests happy.
What I most like about Andaz is that everyone looks after each other, the S&M team are from a wide range of backgrounds and such a motivated group of people – we are all different but have the same goals to work towards and we complement each other. I love the work atmosphere and the culture we have in the hotel, this is truly what keeps us all motivated to succeed and achieve our goals as a team, whilst having a lot of fun on the way.
Being part of Andaz also means, joining the Hyatt family which has over 679 hotels in over 54 different countries, also recognised as a UK Great Place to Work Company!
